For the first time in a long time, I actually went to drop T off at school. Since I've been out of the hospital, I've been just sitting in the car. But today was Tyler's very first field trip for school and Brad had to bring his car seat, so he needed a bit of help. They got several parents to volunteer to drive the kids to a near by pumpkin patch. Tyler was semi excited. He liked the fact about going to the pumpkin patch, but didn't like the fact of riding in someone Else's car without mommy or daddy with him.
We were a bit early this morning so we stopped off at Pete's coffee on the way to the hospital. I tried ordering a Mocha (hot) via ... which I assume they have (I usually go to Starbucks). But I some how ended up with the equivalent of a Mocha Frappachino blended. Not quiet what I was expecting for such a brisk morning, but it was tasty. I guess I should have gone in with B to see the menu, lol. My bad for being lazy?
I guess I was wrong about the milk. They ran out of breast milk during the night and had to supplement Emily with formula. Man, doesn't seem that papaya soup is working. LOL
At the 9:30 feeding, it was the same deal. I did nursing first and then followed up with the bottle for fortified breast milk (22 calorie enfamil for infants/preemies). I had a bit of a scare when Emily had 2 non recordable dips in her heart rate during nursing. This usually happens during bottle feeding when she sucks too fast and forgets to breathe ... not exactly sure how it happens with nursing since I've been told it takes more energy and what not to get the milk from the breast. Maybe I had too much milk? No, can't be ... I ran out right? *sigh* Thank goodness it was short and she self recovered quickly. At the sound of the alarm I immediately pulled her off, put her up right and started patting her back. I so hope it doesn't happen when we are at home. I don't have the monitor to help me identify it.
Back at home even more laundry and cleaning. All of the things we had in storage had a musky smell and I feel like I've been doing loads and loads of laundry. Brad went up to the attic to get more things ... Excersaucer, bathtub, vibrating rocker chair, just to name a few.
I actually managed to get a nap in this afternoon. I think it is something I will do at a minimum once a day. Especially since I'll probably be doing most of the night feedings on my own once Brad goes back to work.
At the 3:30 feeding I carefully watched Emily as she nursed and made sure she didn't suck too many times without swallowing or breathing. No dips for me ... but one for Brad when he followed up with the bottle. I hope this isn't a trend that will keep her in the hospital longer. But at the same time, I feel more comfortable that it happens while at the NICU where there are nurses everywhere to help us when it does happen.
Aftering picking up Tyler we stopped off at Target to get a few more things. As much as I make shopping lists of things to buy, there are always things we realize we need after the fact.
We went for Chinese food for dinner. Hot and sour soup, which was too spicy hot for me ... house fried rice and kung pao scallops. All of it was quite tasty. :)
Tonight was also Tyler's swimming lessons. He has improved a LOT since I last got to watch him. He appears much more comfortable in the water and will put his face/head in for longer then before. He still can't quite float on his own, but with assistance practices his kicking and big arms.
OMG what a break through. Yay, I finally got to read Tyler books. :)
